Which team wants to hang around in the Big 12 title chase?
Kansas State needs a slew of big breaks to get back within range, but it’s playing well enough and sound enough to get through November with four straight wins if the formula continues to work.
This isn’t a flashy team, and it plays a whole slew of close, tight games, but that’s part of the style of a team with a whole lot of substance.
There’s little-to-know passing game, but the running attack is fine, there are never any wasted trips into the red zone, and the defense is the best in the conference. It’s a killer against the run and it’s able to keep most of the high-powered Big 12 offenses under wraps.
While the Wildcats are trying to close out a sixth win to become bowl eligible, Oklahoma State is still right there in the fight for the Big 12 title. If it wins out, and if Baylor loses once more along the way, it’ll be the conference champion. However, three of the last four games are on the road, and this should be the toughest test before finishing up at Oklahoma.
The Cowboys have the passing explosion with an efficient and deadly attack, and they’ve been air-tight in turnover margin and good enough on special teams to roll with a four-game winning streak including last week’s terrific 37-20 victory over West Virginia.
Can Kansas State keep this game under wraps and not let OSU get on a roll? It’s only the third road trip of the year for the Cowboys, and while that might not matter too much, they lost to Baylor earlier in the season when the offense didn’t have everything clicking.
Kansas State isn’t going to get the breaks and OSU mistakes it’ll need, but it’ll do just enough to overcome a few big pass plays and won’t let the Cowboys do a thing on the ground. It’ll be a frustrating day for OSU as the Wildcats lose all the stats, but win the game.
