Oklahoma State (3-2) vs. Iowa State (2-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 8
Game Time: 3:30 pm
Venue: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
This should be the layup part of the Oklahoma State schedule with Iowa State this week and Kansas coming up next, but for a team that lost to Central Michigan and already has a Big 12 loss, it can’t take anything for granted.
The Cowboys ripped up Texas last week with the offense getting back on track after not getting it going enough to get past Baylor. Iowa State had to deal with the Bears, too, and it did a better job than OSU did.
The Cyclones gave Baylor all it could handle in a 45-42 loss, getting the running game going for the second week in a row with a season-high 204 yards and four scores in the dogfight. But they’ve been more than that.
They’re getting better under first year head coach Matt Campbell, especially with the passing attack that struggled so much early on. Joel Lanning has been sharp, completing 17-of-23 passes for 261 yards and two scores against Baylor after hitting San Jose State for two touchdown passes. Now he might have to bomb away.
The Cowboys give up their share of passing yards, and they’ll be dinked and dunked on all game long while having to pay too much attention to Mike Warren and the running game.
But they’ll also get a brilliant game from Mason Rudolph.
Iowa State doesn’t have a pass rush, and the Oklahoma State quarterback will take advantage of the time with a 350-yard passing day – even with the Cowboys banged up at receiver.
Expect a shootout.
