For the second straight season, the Oklahoma offense is ripping it up as the Big 12 play is rolling with the offense taking its production to a whole other level.

It was able to get past the emotion and the fight of the rivalry Texas, it took it to Kansas State early, and it survived the firefights against TCU and Texas Tech. And now it’s time to pad the stats for a few weeks.

With Kansas and Iowa State up next before the rough finishing kick, if there’s any tinkering to be done, now’s the time to do it.

Baker Mayfield is playing like a Heisman candidate again, hitting around 75% of his passes in Big 12 play, highlighted by last week’s 545-yard, seven-touchdown day against Texas Tech.

Dede Westbrook has caught 28 passes for 618 yards and eight scores – averaging around 22 yards per grab – over the last three weeks, while Joe Mixon has more than filled in for a banged up Samaje Perine with 263 yards and two scores last week.

It’s all working.

Kansas is still trying to fight the good fight, and it’s still losing big.

The Jayhawks might have come within a missed kick of beating TCU, but they weren’t even close in the other three Big 12 games. The offense isn’t good enough to keep up the pace, and the defense doesn’t have the talent to come up with the stops needed to overcome a turnover-prone offense that’s given it up 12 times over the last three weeks and 25 times on the season.

This week, it all depends on how much of a statement the Sooners feel like making.

OU has won the last two meetings by a combined score of 106-14. If the Sooners really want to, that could be the final score, but after the track meet of last week, they’ll get up fast and ease up in the second half.
