Depending on what Toledo does against Western Michigan in a few weeks, and what Akron does against Ohio in the MAC regular season finale, this could be a preview of your 2016 MAC Championship game.
Ohio hasn’t been very good, but it’s won four of the last five games playing the weak and the sad, but the one loss came at home to Eastern Michigan.
The offense doesn’t have enough to keep up the pace in any way if the Toledo offense gets rolling, and it’s not efficient enough to keep the chains moving to slow things down if this starts to get out of hand.
The one big danger for Toledo is the Bobcat defense that’s really that decent. It held Tennessee in check and hasn’t allowed more than 28 points to anyone but Texas State in the opener.
But it has to be all about the D. Since that date with the Bobcats, Ohio is 0-2 when allowing more than 24 points and 5-0 when allowing fewer.
Toledo has the nation’s most efficient passing game, coming off a nice performance against Central Michigan and a third straight win after the wild and crazy loss to BYU.
The defense has been just fine, the offense balanced, and the talent coming through when needed against the bad teams on the slate that have at least been competitive.
The Rockets will start out by trying to pound away against the solid Bobcat defensive front, but it’ll be the deadly passing attack that dominates on third downs to keep the chains moving, while making this a frustrating blowout for the MAC East.
