Why Tulsa Will Win

Bowling Green has a good offense that’ll shine once the MAC season kicks in, but it didn’t have a prayer against a jacked up Ohio State defense in the opener. With Oklahoma coming up next, will the Buckeyes really be all that fired up to deal with a Tulsa passing game that should be among the best in the American Athletic Conference?

Dane Evans was just okay in the blowout over San Jose State, but he made big things happen deep with Keevan Lucas – one of the best receivers the Buckeyes will face all year. The Buckeye secondary was a rock against the Falcons, but Lucas – coming off a 112-yard day on six catches – will be a factor.

The ground game worked last week, too, with D’Angelo Brewer taking off for 164 yards and three scores, and James Flanders and Raymond Taylor helping the cause for a Golden Hurricane attack that cranked out 305 yards on the ground.

That’s not going to happen against the Buckeyes, but the attack is in place to catch the OSU D napping.

Why Ohio State Will Win

The Tulsa secondary is about to get hit and hit hard.

It held up relatively well against a San Jose State passing game that’s supposed to be a whole lot better than it showed in the 45-10 opening loss, but Ohio State’s got the right talent and the right scheme to spread the ball around and come up with big play after big play. Three words: yards after catch.

Nine different Buckeyes caught passes with Curtis Samuel starring making nine grabs for 177 yards and two scores. J.T. Barrett was flawless after a minor gaffe to start things out, and after this, the Heisman hype will kick in.

After throwing for six scores against Bowling Green, a possible five-touchdown day against the Golden Hurricane will pump up the stats, setting the stage for the national showcase game in Norman. Barrett should fire at will.

What’s Going To Happen?

How much attitude will Ohio State bring? Tulsa has enough of an offense to come up with a few scores to keep this from getting out of hand, but the defense won’t hold up its end of the bargain. It won’t be the post-pick six, razor-sharp performance the Buckeyes came up with against Bowling Green, but it’ll be impressive.
