Nevada (3-5) vs. New Mexico (5-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 5
Game Time: 10:15 pm
Venue: University Stadium, Albuquerque, NM
Still alive in the Mountain West title chase, New Mexico might have lost to Boise State, but it still gets its shot at Wyoming and has a shockingly not-that-bad next few weeks to build up the resume, even with road games at Utah State and Colorado State coming up.
The Lobo running game needed a little while to crank it all up, but now it’s humming full force, averaging 357 yards per game while doing exactly what the attack needs to do in terms of time of possession and defensive stops in key times.
And Nevada can’t stop the run.
An awful season – losing four of the last five games – could get far worse in a hurry with San Diego State and Donnel Pumphrey to deal with. The Wolf Pack defensive front hasn’t even been close at times, allowing 344 yards or more in two of the last four games and 231 yards or more in six games.
Things are going from bad to worse, with QB Tyler Stewart out for the year with a shoulder problem, meaning it’s up to Ty Gangi now build on his 300-yard passing day in the loss to Wyoming two weeks ago.
Will the rest help Nevada? Not really.
New Mexico will run for over 400 yards and control the ball for close to 40 minutes as it keeps the positive momentum rolling.
