Nevada (2-2) vs. Hawaii (1-3) Game Preview
Date: Sunday, Oct. 2
Game Time: 12:00 am
Venue: Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, HI
Nevada fought the good fight against Purdue last week – getting up early before giving way in the second half – and now it goes through the culture shock with the trip from West Lafayette to Honolulu. Will the offense be along for the ride?
Finally, Hawaii gets a team that’s almost exactly its own size after getting rolled up by Cal, Michigan and Arizona to start the season. The Rainbow Warriors couldn’t stop UT Martin, either, but they’ve had two weeks off since dealing with Arizona and they need to be ready for the Wolf Pack ground game.
Nevada might be struggling, but it’s not losing the turnover battle, it’s not getting flagged enough, and the offense has managed to keep things moving. What it’s not doing is coming up with a third down stop, and that’s where Hawaii has to come in.
Can Hawaii simply hold on to the ball? It’s given the ball away ten times so far and only one the turnover battle in the lone win over UTM. At home, somehow the turnovers have to stop and the running game has to take over the game from the start.
This is a team that needed a rest. Hawaii had to travel way too much, but now it got its break and it’ll look the part with the rushing tandem of Dicemy Saint Juste and Steven Lakalaka combining forces to help pull off a great win for head coach Nick Rolovich in the Mountain West opener.
