Why Wyoming Will Win

There wasn’t any Nebraska game whatsoever in the win over Fresno State. It wasn’t necessary considering the ground attack took care of things in the blowout, but it simply didn’t work with Tommy Armstrong and Ryker Fyfe combining to complete 6-of-13 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.

The Cowboys were lit up by the Northern Illinois passing game – they couldn’t stop Huskie WR Kenny Golladay – but the Huskers aren’t going to start bombing away now. At least that’s Wyoming’s hope.

Nebraska’s big concern, though, is the rebuilding and thin defensive line. It looked terrific against Fresno State, but the Bulldogs don’t have any semblance of a ground game. The Huskers generated pressure, but it mostly came from other defensive parts. Now they’re going to have to deal with Brian Hill, who combined with new starting quarterback Josh Allen to run for close to 200 yards against NIU. Give these two a little bit of room, and they’ll move the offense.

Why Nebraska Will Win

Can Nebraska stay as sharp as it was against Fresno State? There might have been seven penalties, but there weren’t any turnovers, the lines were solid, and overall, it was a good performance – Fresno State was never in the game. If the Huskers don’t screw up, Wyoming might not have a chance.

The Cowboys might have gotten the win over NIU, but the kicking game was lousy, Cooper Rothe missed two field goals, and the ten penalties hurt. Throw in the errors in the secondary along with a D line that was okay against the Huskies, but is about to be pounded on, and Nebraska should be in control after a few drives.

What’s Going To Happen?

Can Josh Allen repeat the magic he showed against NIU? He threw for 245 yards and two scores, ran for 70 yards and the game-winning score, and he looked like the type of all-around baller who could be an X factor against a tough Husker D that’ll focus on stopping Hill.

But it’s not going to happen.

This is when Tommy Armstrong and the passing attack starts to work again, balancing out the offense after using the ground game to come up with points off the first two drives. Nebraska will look outstanding against the Mountain West for the second week in a row.
