Navy (7-2) vs. East Carolina (3-7) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 19
Game Time: 4:00 pm
Venue: Dowdy-Ficken Stadium, Greenville, NC
This was supposed to be played a month ago, but Hurricane Matthew switched things around a bit. Now it’s one of the biggest games of the AAC season, with Navy needing to win to stay one setp ahead of Houston and Tulsa.
The team has work to do with without getting much of a break, and now with the last three games away from home and just one home date since October 22nd, but beat the Pirates this week or SMU next week, and it’s in the title game.
The running game continues to be the Navy running game, managing to do just enough to get by Tulsa in a fun and wild shootout, but the passing attack is doing enough to take advantage of the opportunities, too.
In other words, Navy is being Navy.
That’s a massive problem for an East Carolina run defense that’s been shakier than normal, giving up almost 600 rushing yards against Tulsa and SMU over the last two weeks. Navy might just do that by itself against an ECU defensive front that doesn’t get behind the line.
ECU might still be throwing well, and they should have a few good moments against a Navy defense that can’t come up with a third down stop, but it’ll never have the ball.
The Midshipmen will have their problems at times, but the ground game will go on too many long, easy scoring marches. ECU’s offense will be on the field for just over 20 minutes and won’t get into a groove.
