Air Force at Wyoming
3:30 pm ROOT SPORTS / MWN
Line: Air Force -10.5 o/u: 53
Fearless Prediction: Air Force 31, Wyoming 23
The Falcons aren’t rolling, but they’re still unbeaten thanks to the nation’s second-best run defense. Making the D even better so far is the way it clamped down against Utah State and Navy over the last two games, getting by in tight battles, but getting the win. For the Mountain West teams this season, just getting the win is enough. Wyoming might have kickstarted its season with a win over Colorado State last week, but a home win over Air Force – and a 2-0 MW start – would be truly special. The O might be mistake-prone, but it’s moving the ball. This week it’ll have problems against the swarming veteran Air Force defense, but it’ll do enough to keep the game tight throughout.
Hawaii at San Jose State
4:30 pm Oceanic PPV
Line: San Jose State -3 o/u: 65.5
Fearless Prediction: Hawaii 37, San Jose State 34
Is Hawaii ready to go on a run? The Rainbow Warriors came up with a nice win over Nevada to get back into the hunt for a bowl game. However, to get there, they have to pull this off – they still need to get to seven wins. The running game has been fantastic, and the defense might be better than you think – the problems came against the Power 5 teams on the slate. San Jose State got the offense rolling against New Mexico last week, and it should be balanced against the Rainbow Warriors, but Hawaii will run for over 300 yards and pull out the road win it needs.
Fresno State at Nevada
7:00 pm ESPN3
Line: Nevada -9.5 o/u: 55
Fearless Prediction: Nevada 38, Fresno State 27
It’s condition critical time for both teams. Fresno State gagged away a huge lead against Tulsa, and followed it up with a loss to a backup quarterback at UNLV. The passing game is great and should be able to bomb on the Wolf Pack, but the defense continues to be a complete and utter disaster, especially against the run. Nevada’s season is effectively over with a loss after getting knocked out by Hawaii last week. The ground game might not be rolling like it needs to be, but it can move the chains, and that’ll be enough. Finally, Nevada will look the part again.
Utah State at Colorado State
10:00 pm CBS Sports Network
Line: Utah State -6 o/u: 50
Fearless Prediction: Colorado State 26, Utah State 23
When will these two start to crank it up? Utah State hasn’t been able to get the offense working well enough in two tough losses against the Mountain West stars – losing to Air Force and Boise State – but now it’s time to see if it all works against a Colorado State team that’s been stunningly mediocre. The Rams were awful last week in the home loss to Wyoming – the run defense got torn to shreds – and this week it’s up to Utah State to try finally getting its O going. The Rams, though, won’t have two horrible home games in a row. They’ll take advantage of good field position – Utah State’s punting game is lousy – to survive a surprisingly entertaining battle.
UNLV at San Diego State
10:30 pm ESPNU
Line: San Diego State -14.5 o/u: 54.5
Fearless Prediction: San Diego State 45, UNLV 13
UNLV has been able to survive the injury to QB Johnny Stanton to come up with a key win over Fresno State to turn its season around – maybe – but can it pull off a big shocker to really make a statement? That’s asking for a whole lot against a San Diego State team that stunningly braincramped against South Alabama. It was a good game from USA, but it was also a dud from the Aztecs. The Rebel run defense has been solid, and the D overall has been good, but this week the offense will be ground to a dead stop by a fired up SDSU defense that’s about to make amends for last week.
