All of a sudden, life doesn’t look so awful for Kentucky.
In the desperate attempt to finally get to a bowl game again, it’s been a rocky ride to get to 3-3, but now the schedule doesn’t look all that bad with winnable games against Austin Peay, Missouri, and this week against Mississippi State to map out a real, honest shot at six wins.
With two weeks off to relax after the win over Vanderbilt, can the offense start to pick it up? Somehow, the Cats have gotten to .500 despite failing to score more than 20 points in four games and making a whole slew of mistakes and turnovers. Fortunately for UK, Mississippi State comes into the game limping.
The Bulldogs did what they could against BYU in a two overtime loss, but they’re struggling to convert yards into points and can’t seem to come through with enough key defensive stops.
However, there’s a reason for MSU to get excited. This is the end of a brutal fun of four road games in five dates, and at the very least, the team’s been close with three of the losses this year coming by a grand total of 11 points.
Last week the Bulldogs finally got some real help for Nick Fitzgerald with Aeris Williams cranking up 82 yards on 21 carries to take some of the pressure off, but the offense is still about the quarterback.
Fitzgerald still leads the team in rushing and he should be just enough to go along with a solid defense that’s better than its record. UK has yet to win the turnover battle this year going -8 in the six games, and it’ll be the same thing again. That’ll be enough for MSU to pull off a tight, tough road win.
