What’s Mississippi State going to do this season? What’s going to happen in each game and how with the 2016 Bulldogs football schedule play out?

Mississippi State might not have Dak Prescott around anymore, but it’s got a solid all-around team that should make a little bit of noise again. Check out the preseason predictions for every game.

Sept. 3 vs. South Alabama

The Jaguars are always well coached and they’re always going to being the effort, but they have a bit too much work to do. Mississippi State will be efficient and effective on offense in the second half to overcome a few early mistakes.

Preseason Prediction: Mississippi State 44, South Alabama 10

Sept. 10 vs. South Carolina

The Gamecocks will be better than you think they’ll be. The defense will be active and terrific, and the ground game just dynamic enough to be a problem. But the Bulldogs will hold tough at home. It’ll be early in the season, but the MSU offense will be just balanced enough to survive a good test in the SEC opener.

Preseason Prediction: Mississippi State 24, South Carolina 20

Sept. 17 at LSU

It’ll be a good loss. The Bulldogs will be feisty and should be able to keep Leonard Fournette from going off, but the secondary will struggle just enough on third downs to not get the big upset. They’ll play well, but the best team in the country will have too much talent – the parts other than No. 7 will come through for the Tigers.

Preseason Prediction: LSU 31, Mississippi State 21

Sept. 24 at UMass

The Minutemen won’t have the firepower or the defensive front to keep this interesting. The Bulldogs will go on a few early scoring drives and cruise from there. It’ll be all but over by the second quarter.

Preseason Prediction: Mississippi State 41, UMass 16

Oct. 1 OPEN DATE

Oct. 8 vs. Auburn

Auburn has to go on the road for the first time all season, while Mississippi State should be relaxed and ready to roll after, essentially, two weeks off playing UMass before a bye week. It’ll be an entertaining and tight battle with the Bulldogs coming up with the one late stop it needs to get the key win.
Preseason Prediction: Mississippi State 27, Auburn 24

Oct. 15 at BYU

Can Mississippi State come up with a tough victory on the road against a BYU team in need of win in the midst of a horrific schedule. It’ll be a strange setting for MSU, but it’ll come up with a nice balance on offense to make it a fight. The Cougars will fight their way for the tight win, playing like a desperate team along the way.

Preseason Prediction: BYU 27, Mississippi State 23

Oct. 22 at Kentucky

The Wildcats get a week off before hosting the Bulldogs, and it’ll make a big difference with one of their better performances of the season. With the road trip to Provo the week before, Mississippi State will fizzle against a UK team needing the home win to keep bowl hopes rolling.

Preseason Prediction: Kentucky 26, Mississippi State 14

Oct. 29 vs. Samford

It’s not like the Bulldogs need a huge break after coming in on a bit of a roll, but they could use a layup with a nasty November coming up. The Bulldogs from the Samford side won’t ever get going with the offense shut down from the start.

Preseason Prediction: Mississippi State 48, Samford 6

Nov. 5 vs. Texas A&M

Both teams come in after a relative week off, with Texas A&M getting back on track against New Mexico State after losing at Alabama the week before. Mississippi State will get into a fun and wild shootout coming down to the last team to get the ball. Trevor Knight will come through late for A&M, but the Bulldogs will come up with the game-winning drive in the final moments.

Preseason Prediction: Mississippi State 41, Texas A&M 37

Nov. 12 at Alabama

It won’t be the best of efforts from the Crimson Tide after losing to LSU the week before, but the defense will rise up and get the job done for three quarters before a tight game opens up in the fourth. The game will be closer than the final score.

Preseason Prediction: Alabama 30, Mississippi State 13

Nov. 19 vs. Arkansas

The Hogs will be in the midst of a tough run with Florida and LSU in back-to-back weeks, but it’ll get healthy on the road with a tough, pounding day against the Miss State D. Coming off the road game against Alabama, the Bulldogs won’t have the needed pop, even on Senior Day.

Preseason Prediction: Arkansas 37, Mississippi State 27

Nov. 26 at Ole Miss

The Egg Bowl, as always, will be entertaining, and the emotion will be high, but it’ll be Ole Miss that comes through at home after taking control early on with a decent day from the passing game. The two quarterbacks will take center stage with a late run from the Bulldogs making it close in the fourth.

Preseason Prediction: Ole Miss 30, Mississippi State 23

2016 Prediction: 6-6

2016 SEC Prediction: 2-6
