The Gophers were able to get by Maryland without a problem thanks to a tough running attack and a terrific game from a defense that’s stepped up over the last few weeks, but can they handle yet another game without QB Mitch Leidner?
It’s Rutgers – there shouldn’t be an issue.
With Leidner out with a concussion, Conor Rhoda filled in and did just fine, even though he didn’t have to do too much with the 1-2 rushing punch of Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks carrying the team. Considering the Scarlet Knights can’t stop the run even a little bit, the same formula should work again.
Rutgers has hit a painful power outage, scoring just seven oh-by-the-way fourth quarter garbage points against Illinois. How bad have things been? The Scarlet Knights have cranked up just 14 points in the last four games and haven’t shown any signs of busting out of the slump.
Can Giovanni Rescigno somehow provide a spark for the Scarlet Knight attack?
The 6-3, 224-pounder has the size and he’s got a little mobility, too. At this point, head coach Chris Ash is looking to find anything to change things up, but the Minnesota defense will be too good and too solid at home.
The run D has been terrific at times thanks to plays behind the line coming from a variety of spots, and while the secondary has broken down at times – hi, Penn State – it’s only allowed three touchdown passes with five picks in the last four games.
Minnesota won’t have any issues.
