Middle Tennessee (3-1) vs. North Texas (2-2) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 1
Game Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: Apogee Stadium, Denton, TX
Okay, so what’s working so far for North Texas? Being 2-2 so far in the Seth Littrell era is a plus considering the program needed a total gut job, but he’s been able to find a few playmakers to make the thing go.
Jeffrey Wilson and Willy Ivery are forming a solid running back tandem to settle down the offense at times, while the secondary has been just decent enough over the last three games to be a positive. Teams can run the ball on the Mean Green defensive front, but the secondary has done a stunningly nice job of holding its own and not giving up the big plays.
Fine, so teams are spending too much time running the ball, but there are positives.
Middle Tennessee might blow that all up.
The Blue Raiders might have had inexplicable defensive issues against Vanderbilt, but Brent Stockstill has been magnificent so far for an unstoppable passing offense. Beating Alabama A&M and Bowling Green might not have been any big deal, but the team showed the mettle to get past Louisiana Tech in a terrific game last week, and now it has to gear up for the showdown next week against WKU.
The running game will have its moments this week to give Stockstill a little bit of a break, but the offense as a whole will work out fine. North Texas will have its moments with its backs doing some nice things, but there won’t be enough of them.
