Week 6 MAC Game Previews, Predictions, Lines & TV

How are the MAC predictions so far? SU: 35-16, ATS: 14-24

Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016

Bowling Green at Ohio

2:00 pm ESPN3
Line: Ohio -12.5 o/u: 61.5
Fearless Prediction: Ohio 34, Bowling Green 20

Bowling Green is losing to Eastern Michigan now. Yeah, Eastern Michigan is good, but the Falcons are horrendous with a passing game that was so dominant last year – they’re last in the nation in passing efficiency. They’re also dead last in turnover margin and scoring D. Have fun with this, Ohio. The Bobcats don’t screw up – they’ll be a +3.

Miami Univ. at Akron

3:00 pm ESPN3
Line: Akron -8.5 o/u: NA
Fearless Prediction: Akron 34, Miami University 27

Is Akron QB Thomas Woodson able to go with his shoulder problem? Even if he can’t, can’t Miami crank up the offense enough to make this a battle? The RedHawks haven’t won yet, but the passing game is good enough to bomb away for over 300 yards and more than keep up the pace with a team that made Kent State’s offense look good. The Zips will get to four wins, but they’ll have to battle to get there.

Toledo at Eastern Michigan

3:00 pm ESPN3
Line: Toledo -17 o/u: 69
Fearless Prediction: Toledo 40, Eastern Michigan 24

Who’s more fun than Eastern Michigan right now? America’s favorite college football speedbump is 4-1 and really and truly in the mix for a bowl game, and now it has a chance to get everyone to take notice if it can beat Toledo at home. The problem is an Eagle secondary that’s okay, but not great, with Toledo and the nation’s most-efficient passing game ready to crank up the attack after a heartbreaking loss to BYU in a wild shootout. Toledo is the real deal – and so is EMU, but on a MAC scale.

Ball State at Central Michigan

3:30 pm ASN
Line: Central Michigan -12.5 o/u: 59.5
Fearless Prediction: Central Michigan 40, Ball State 24

Both 3-2 teams have had their moments, but Central Michigan has fallen off after a hot start with the defense getting ripped up by both Virginia and Western Michigan. Ball State’s offense can run well, but its three wins came over three awful teams and last week it lost to Northern Illinois. The Cardinals are playing okay under new head man Mike Neu, but CMU’s offense will roll at home to make up for the last two weeks.

Kent State at Buffalo

3:30 pm ESPN3
Line: Kent State -1 o/u: 42.5
Fearless Prediction: Kent State 27, Buffalo 20

Kent State’s offense might not crank up the yards – averaging under 300 yards per game – but it’s facing a team with an even worse attack. The Bulls haven’t been able to throw, they haven’t been able to run, and they haven’t been able to do enough with their okay defense to do much against strong defenses. The Kent State D might not be statistically great, but it’s still good enough to come up with just enough stops in the battle of misfit offensive attacks.

Northern Illinois at Western Michigan

6:30 pm CBS Sports Network
Line: Western Michigan -19.5 o/u: 65
Fearless Prediction: Western Michigan 47, Northern Illinois 24

Welcome to the coronation. Northern Illinois has been the MAC’s power program over the last several years, and now it’s handing the honor off to a Western Michigan team that’s crushing and killing everything in its path. The Broncos have two Big Ten wins, destroyed a good Central Michigan team, and appears to be marching to an 11-0 start before dealing with Toledo. Northern Illinois doesn’t have the defense hold down the balance Bronco O.
