Bowl and Conference Implications

The winner will finish no worse than third in the SEC West, and could technically tie for second if Auburn loses to Alabama. The winner has an inside slant on the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

What’s Going To Happen?

It’s the game that saved Les Miles last year. Can it save its current interim head man?

With one play, one misfire on the goal line, LSU went from being one of the hottest teams in college football to a 6-4 program and, considering the preseason expectations and talent level across the board, a massive disappointment.

How much will LSU be able to gear it up at this point?

Had the Tigers been able to beat Florida, the Sugar Bowl would’ve been there for the taking with a win over A&M. Instead, now it’ll be tough for Ed Orgeron to take the full-time head coaching gig, a slew of key players are going to be gone next year, and the program might be in for a reboot.

Texas A&M might be limping across the finish line, but they have a shot at a strong ten-win season with a win over LSU and a bowl victory.

The team hasn’t been the same since the second half of the Alabama loss, and now, without Trevor Knight at the helm, the offense has stalled and sputtered too much, while the D might not ever quite recover from the fourth quarter collapse against Ole Miss.

Basically, the loser of this game will be in a bad mood, but the future will be on display.

Texas A&M’s Trayveon Williams has slowed down a bit after a red-hot start – he hasn’t rushed for more than 80 yards in the last five games – but the Aggies need to get him working immediately. QB Jake Hubenak has been solid in place of Knight, but he doesn’t add the same rushing threat. Against an LSU run D that’s allowing 115 yards per game, Williams will be a marked man.

The same goes for Guice, who might forever be known for coming up short on the ill-conceived final play call against the Gators, but he’s been terrific with Leonard Fournette hurting with an ankle problem.

It’s an attitude game for the Tigers. If they can bring the intensity from the start, they should be able to control the lines and Guice should go off. A&M’s passing game will sputter just enough against the great LSU secondary to force Williams to have to shine, and he’ll have too many problems getting going.
