Louisiana Tech (4-3) vs. FIU (3-4) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 22
Game Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: FIU Stadium, Miami, FL
Really? This could be a preview of the Conference USA championship?
If the rest of the regular season ended right now, this would be the matchup with interim head coach Ron Cooper going on a three-game winning streak with the Golden Panthers against the dregs of the conference.
No, this isn’t going to last, and yes, it’s all a mirage, but for a team that started out an ugly 0-4 and fired its head coach, it’s been a fun last few weeks.
Why is this happening? Not playing a decent team is part of it, but the offense has done its part against the mediocre with QB Alex McGough going off throwing for 315 yards last week against Charlotte and getting the air show rolling.
However, McGough is throwing way, way too many picks to keep things interesting.
He’ll get his yards against a porous Louisiana Tech defense that gives up passing yards in clumps over the last five weeks, allowing 250 yards or more in each game against some devastating quarterbacks.
There’s way too much firepower across the Bulldog attack for FIU to keep up the pace, especially when the turnovers start coming.
The yards will be there for the Golden Panthers, but the turnovers will start coming in the second half as the Bulldogs start to pull away.
