With Toledo shockingly losing to Ohio on Thursday night, now Central Michigan is back in the race for the No. 2 spot in the MAC West behind Western Michigan. Why does this matter? Being No. 2 in the MAC West means being No. 2 in the MAC.
The Chippewas have struggled a bit lately going 2-3 and needing three overtimes to get by Northern Illinois and losing to Toledo, but the offense is still solid, the defense okay, while winning the MAC title might be realistically out of the picture, they’re one win away from going bowling.
Kent State has to be perfect the rest of the way to go bowling, and it won’t be. The offense is struggling through another season of no passing and little scoring, and while the defense is terrific again – allowing just 351 yards a game – it’s not enough to overcome the offensive woes.
The Golden Flash attack isn’t going to start getting healthy now, but against a Chippewas offense that’s way too flaky and too inefficient in the red zone, the score will be kept low in yet another tight battle for both teams. Kent State, though, won’t have to the scoring power to overcome a workmanlike day from the CMU attack.
