Bowl and Conference Implications

Kansas is going to finish at best tied for last in the Big 12, and would be the last place team with a loss. Kansas State is bowl eligible and will finish in the league’s top four with a win this week and a win next week over TCU.

What’s Going To Happen?

Kansas got its win.

Not only did the Jayhawks finally get a Big 12 victory again for the first time since 2014, but it screwed up the entire Texas program in the thrilling overtime win. That’s as good as it’s going to get for KU this season, and it’s going to have to count as its bowl game.

However, it showed how the program had gotten better in some ways, battling hard against Iowa State and earlier coming within a missed field goal of beating TCU.

But now it’s about to get hit hard by reality, and the Kansas State running game.

For all the positives, the Jayhawks can’t stop anyone’s running game, giving up 200 yards or more in each of the last six games, allowing over five yards per game. Only Texas Tech – who spent the whole time throwing – TCU, and Rhode Island are the only three teams that didn’t hit the 200-yard mark.

Kansas State averages 211 rushing yards per game.

This isn’t going to be all that crazy an offensive game plan for a Wildcat running game that’s found a groove over the last month, and should be able to barrel for at least 200 yards without breathing too hard.

Freshman Alex Barnes cranked up 129 yards and four scores last week against Baylor, and now he, Charles Jones, and QB Jesse Ertz will keep it all going in an easy rivalry win.

It was a fun week, Kansas.
