Kansas State (5-4) vs. Baylor (6-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 19
Game Time: 12:00 pm
Venue: McLane Stadium, Waco, TX
On and off the field, the Baylor 2016 is falling into the abyss. With three straight losses, a horrible leg injury suffered by Seth Russell, and the Big 12 title dream gone, it’s been a rough run, but there’s reason for hope.
The backfield is back to help out new starting quarterback Zach Smith, with Terence Williams back from a leg injury, and Shock Linwood expected to return after being suspended.
But the Bears will need Smith to shine.
The 6-4, 235-pound freshman has been awful when given the chance, completing just 16-of-35 passes for 272 yards and two scores, but he’s a strong passer with a world of upside, and now he’ll get his chance for the next few weeks to prepare for battling for the 2017 gig.
But the Kansas State defense is going to be unrelenting.
A massive disappointment so far, the Wildcat secondary is getting hit way too hard and giving up way too many key plays, but the run defense has been stellar.
The brick wall of a front seven will load up and dare Smith to win the game, but he’s going against a K-State secondary that’s not picking off enough passes and is allowing 282 yards per game.
Still fighting for a bowl game, Kansas State should get it against Kansas next week if it doesn’t pull this off, but it’s got the right formula. Baylor leads the nation in committing the most penalties, it doesn’t know how to control the clock, and it doesn’t have the run defense to hold up.
Kansas State will own the clock from the start, while making life impossible for Smith, as the season keeps sinking lower for the Bears.
