Kansas State (4-3) vs. Iowa State (1-6) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 29
Game Time: 12:00 pm
Venue: Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, IA
Kansas State has a good enough defense to beat anyone left on the schedule, and there’s Kansas still out there as the free space, but it would be nice to get the win over Iowa State to at least be that one step away from securing a bowl bid, while also staying alive in the conference title chase.
The Wildcats might not be flashy offensively in any way, but they were just solid enough against Texas in a key 24-21 win – mostly because the defense held up well.
But Jesse Ertz did his part, too, hitting 74% of his passes for a short-to-midrange 171 yards and a touchdown with a pick. Against Iowa State, though, this is when the running game has to get going against a porous front seven that couldn’t handle the Longhorns two weeks ago.
On the plus side, Iowa State got a desperately-needed week off after losing three straight. The Cyclones have been competitive, and they certainly haven’t embarrassed themselves, but they just don’t have the players on the defensive front seven.
It doesn’t help that the secondary is banged up, too.
Kansas State is a team that should be right in a rested Iowa State’s wheelhouse, but the Wildcat linebackers will dominate the Cyclone ground game. K-State won’t whiff on its opportunities – Iowa State will.
