Iowa State vs. San Jose State Prediction
After a total disaster of a three-game start to the season, Iowa State needs this. With the Big 12 world kicking in hard next week after starting out last week getting rocked by TCU, this might be the last honest shot at a win until going to Kansas in mid-November.
San Jose State fought well against Utah last week, but the defense has yet to come up with a decent day against the run and hasn’t been consistent enough on offense. There’s offensive talent, but this is the week it all needs to come together against a Cyclone defense that hasn’t stopped anyone’s ground game, either.
Iowa State hasn’t been able to find anything yet that works. It’s supposed to have a good backfield, but Mike Warren hasn’t been able to find any room behind a rough line.
The defense hasn’t been able to come up with any helm with just one lone fumble recovery in the first three games – the Cyclones just can’t seem to create their own breaks.
Can Kenny Potter crank up the passing game for the Spartans? He was good enough in the first two games throwing for over 230 yards in each, and he’ll bounce back from a rough day against Utah to hit just enough throws to keep things moving.
Iowa State’s running game will crank up over 200 yards, but it won’t be enough. The Spartans will pull it out in the final moments on their last drive in what’ll be a thriller.
Final Score: San Jose State 31, Iowa State 30
