Iowa (4-2) vs. Purdue (3-2) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 15
Game Time: 12:00 pm
Venue: Ross-Ade Stadium, West Lafayette, IN
It’s a big moment for Purdue.
The Boilermakers were blasted by Cincinnati and destroyed by Maryland, but they’ve been able to scratch and claw their way to wins over Nevada and Illinois, and while it might not be all that pretty, they’re 3-2 with a shot at coming up with a massive home win.
The Hawkeyes aren’t playing all that well, but they’re grinding along with a 14-7 win last week over Minnesota for their fourth straight game decided by a touchdown or less. The offense is sputtering, the passing game is having a problem, and this isn’t the team it was last year. However, while this might be big for Purdue, this is absolutely massive for the Hawkeyes with Wisconsin, at Penn State, and Michigan up next. Lose this, and all of a sudden a bowl game isn’t a guarantee, forget about the Big Ten West.
Purdue has just enough pluck to give the sputtering Hawkeyes problems, but they make way too many mistakes. They’ve given up 12 turnovers over the last four games, and Iowa needs the help.
However, Purdue will make this tight. Top backs Markell Jones and Brian Lankford-Johnson are hurting, but they’ll play through their shoulder injuries to grind out the ground game a bit, but Iowa QB C.J. Beathard is overdue for a big performance. He’ll be the difference.
