Houston (4-0) vs. Connecticut (2-2) Game Preview
Date: Thursday, September 29
Game Time: 8:30 pm
Venue: TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
Since the unbelievable comeback to beat Pitt in the 2015 Armed Forces Bowl, Houston has gone 17-1.
It was the one big mistake.
The Cougars wouldn’t have necessarily been gotten into the College Football Playoff last year if it went unbeaten, but it would’ve been in the discussion. However, Connecticut put a stop to that in late November with a brilliant defensive performance in a 20-17 win.
Once again, Houston is on a mission, but this time around, Connecticut doesn’t have the same defense and hasn’t been a rock.
However, it does a lot of bending without breaking.
The Bob Diaco D once again knows how to keep dangerous running games under wraps, with the disciplined linebackers and solid defensive front keeping teams like Navy and Virginia from going off – there aren’t any big gashes against this group.
There’s one big, giant problem, though, for the Huskies.
Their offensive line doesn’t have a prayer against the Cougar defensive front.
For as much love as QB Greg Ward Jr. and the Houston offense receives, and rightly so, the defense is every bit as strong with a ridiculous 34 tackles for loss on the year. The linebackers are as sure and sound as any tackling group in the country – ask Oklahoma whether or not they’re the real deal.
UConn will be jacked up on the national stage, and the defense really is decent enough to keep this close for a while, but the offense won’t do a thing against the nation’s No. 1 run D.
Houston, you’ll get your sweet revenge.
