Hawaii (3-4) vs. Air Force (4-2) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 22
Game Time: 2:00 pm
Venue: Falcon Stadium, Colorado Springs, CO
Didn’t you used to be Air Force?
At one time this looked like it was going to be a real, live challenger to Boise State, but the defending Mountain division champ has fallen off the map over the last two weeks with two inexplicable losses to Wyoming and New Mexico. And why?
The run defense has gone bye-bye because the linebacking corps can’t keep anyone healthy.
Wyoming ran well in its win, while New Mexico cranked up 373 yards and four scores in last week’s shootout. Meanwhile, the Falcon running game has been just okay – it’s no up to its normal snuff.
Meanwhile, just when it seemed like Hawaii was going to make a run for a bowl game, it lost the home game it couldn’t lose to UNLV.
The defense that started to improve against the run got ripped apart by the Rebel ground game, and now it’s time for Air Force to take advantage of the struggling Rainbow Warrior defensive front.
So far, Hawaii is 3-0 when it stuffs ground games to fewer than five yards per carry, and is 0-4 when allowing more.
Inexplicably, Air Force is averaging just 4.79 yards per pop so far this year. That’ll change this week. The Falcon passing game is working when needed, but this week at home it’ll be about the ground attack to take care of the Rainbow Warriors and get back on track.
