Georgia vs. North Carolina Game Preview
Date: Saturday, September 3rd
Game Time: 5:30 pm ET
Venue: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA
Why North Carolina Will Win
The explosive offense will push the Bulldogs from the start. The firepower is there, the pop is in place, and outside of quarterback, the veteran playmakers should be able to keep the pressure on all game long. And the QB situation isn’t all that bad, either.
Losing Marquise Williams stinks, but Mitch Trubisky is a veteran option who might not be as dynamic, but he’ll step in and be just fine from the start – he’s not going to wilt in the moment. His job will be to distribute the ball to the stars and let them do their thing. The receiving corps is fantastic, Elijah Hood is an all-star-caliber running back, and the line will be among the best in the ACC. However …
Why Georgia Will Win
The North Carolina defensive front is going through a bit of a change. There’s promise and potential, but the linebacking corps is a big question mark going up against a potentially strong Georgia O line.
The Dawgs aren’t going to rip through the UNC defense like Baylor did in the stunningly-efficient Russell Athletic Bowl win, but depending on the health of Nick Chubb, the ground attack should work.
And that’s still the big question.
Will Chubb really be ready and back to form? If the all-star running back is even close to being his old self, he should have a huge day getting to the second level and breaking off enough big runs to take the pressure off the passing attack. One of North Carolina’s biggest strengths is its secondary, and Georgia shouldn’t have to test it too much.
The Bulldog defensive backfield will be tremendous, too, and should clamp down on the Tar Heel receivers. UNC will be in big trouble if it has to run consistently against Kirby Smart’s front seven.
What’s Going To Happen?
Georgia will look fantastic. The pressure is on Smart to have his team looking strong and tough from Game One, and it’s going to do just that on both sides of the ball by being more physical and more energetic – that’ll matter in a game like this.
Will Jacob Eason make a difference? He took enough reps with the first team in practice to be ready, but Georgia will get the win on the lines.
