It certainly has been interesting for Georgia in Kirby Smart’s first season.
The Bulldogs have on a last-second touchdown pass (Missouri), lost on a soul-crushing Hail Mary (Tennessee), was blown out of the water (Ole Miss) and toughed it out against a dangerous offense (North Carolina). It even needed to extend itself against a vastly inferior team (Nicholls State). But things just got even weirder last week with the date against South Carolina needing to be moved to Sunday thanks to Hurricane Matthew.
The running game was dominant, with a season-high 326 yards with Sony Michel and Nick Chubb each running for over 100 yards, but Jacob Eason was a disaster hitting just 5-of-17 passes for 29 yards with a score with a pick.
But as strange as the first half has been, having problems against Vanderbilt would make the season even crazier.
The Bulldogs are still in the SEC East title hunt with Florida up next in two weeks, but that all goes bye-bye if the Vanderbilt defense can rise up and do something special.
The Commodores just can’t get the offense going – if that sounds familiar.
They’ve failed to score more than 13 points in four of the six games, winning the two games they cranked up more. Can they find a way to make Eason struggle while also holding down the Chubb-Michel 1-2 punch?
Yeah, but it won’t be enough. They’ll once again fight the good fight defensively, but they have no passing explosion and not enough support for RB Ralph Webb.
Expect this to look like Georgia-South Carolina, Part 2.
