Bowl and Conference Implications
Idaho is going bowling before it’s cast out from the Sun Belt world. It’s likely going to end up in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl, but there’s a chance to make things interesting by trying to find ways to keep it round home for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Georgia State is done after this week.
What Does Each Team Need To Do?
Georgia State got the win it really, really wanted against Georgia Southern in a rivalry game last week, and now it brings its excellent pass defense up to Moscow. The Panthers haven’t faced a whole slew of good passing teams, but they’ve held up relatively well against all types, allowing a not-that-miserable 212 rushing yards per game.
Idaho doesn’t run the ball, and it’s not throwing all that well, either. It’s also struggling against anyone who tries to throw, and has been way too inconsistent against the decent offenses on the slate. So how is it doing it? The offense has been opportunistic, and the defense has risen up against bad team after bad team.
The Vandals have yet to beat a team that’s currently bowl eligible, bit it’s not like they care. They’re 7-4, and going bowling.
What’s Going To Happen?
It’s the last game as an FBS team in the Kibbie Dome for the Vandals, while Georgia State is making the long trip with an interim head coach. The Panthers might be good enough defensively to pull this off and end the season on a high note, but the Vandals aren’t losing this one at home.
