Bowl and Conference Implications
Middle Tennessee is already bowl eligible, but it can’t finish any higher than third in the C-USA East. Florida Atlantic can potentially avoid finishing last in the East with a win.
What’s Going To Happen?
It’s not going to be a Conference USA championship season for Middle Tennessee, but it’s going bowling, and it’s been a successful year despite the loss of star QB Brent Stockstill to run the high-powered offense.
The team bounced back from the unforgivable 42-17 loss to Marshall to take down a good Charlotte team last week to pull up out of the nosedive. Freshman QB John Urzua has filled in just fine for Stockstill, throwing for 250 yards and four scores last week against the 49ers, but he’s got an interception problem with seven in his three games in place of Stockstill.
Florida Atlantic has kept on fighting, winning two straight before the defense went back to being the FAU defense last week against Ole Dominion. The Owls play hard, they have a good rushing attack, and they could make November great with a terrific November, but that’s all up to the defense.
I’Tavius Mathers is taking the pressure off of Urzua, going off last week after being bottled up the previous two games, and now he could be in for his best game of the season.
Already at 1,291 yards on the year, a 1,500-yard regular season is in sight with a large day against a run D that’s allowed over 200 yards in three of the last four games and eight of the last ten.
He’ll make a run for it as the Blue Raiders survive a spirited effort to keep on producing despite the absence of their main man.
