The potential is there for something historic to happen on Tuesday night. It could be a night of change with something unprecedented about to happen.

Eastern Michigan could win and go bowling for the first time since 1987.

Getting a sixth win isn’t a lock to get an extra game – the 6-6 2011 team stayed home, but this year, it’ll happen with just one more win.

The Eagles managed to be one of just two teams to beat Wyoming as part of a rip-roaring start, but they’ve lost their last two games with the defense starting to falter and the offense getting stoned in a loss to Western Michigan (fine) and a home date to Miami University (yeesh, but really okay in MAC world).

The passing attack is still terrific – throwing for 328 yards against the RedHawks – but the run defense got run over last week and now has to deal with a Ball State team and one of the league’s best ground games.

James Gilbert might be the best running back you’ve never seen.

The slashing Cardinal sophomore has hit the 100-yard mark in each of the last five games, including 264 yards against Buffalo and 155 last week against Western Michigan. And now he’s about to go off again.

Still in the bowl hunt, too, the Cardinals have to win two of their last three games to stay alive, and they’ll get a massive day from Gilbert. However, the Ball State secondary has been a disaster – allowing over 300 yards and three scores in each of the last three games – and EMU will take advantage on the way to bowl eligibility.

And our country will never be the same.
