Duke (1-1) at Northwestern (0-2) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, September 17th
Game Time: 8:00 pm
Venue: Ryan Field, Evanston, IL
Let’s get a timeout here.
Northwestern was supposed to come into the game an easy 2-0 with tune-up wins over a MAC team and a team from the FCS, but with no offense and absolutely no late luck in losses to Western Michigan and Illinois State, there’s a big, big problem.
The Wildcats could be flaky enough to turn this around quickly – last year’s team seemed to be on the right side of the quirky-weird finishes like the first two games of this year – but a loss to Duke means an 0-3 start with all three losses at home.
Meanwhile, Duke was supposed to be 2-0, too. Instead, the Wake Forest defense rose up and shut down the Blue Devils, and with Notre Dame up next, it’ll be a rough start to the year with a loss in Evanston.
The Blue Devil secondary has been outstanding so far, and the Northwestern passing game – while okay at times compared to last year – still hasn’t been any good. However, while the Wildcats aren’t doing much of anything right, they’re punting well and they’ve been on the right side of the turnover battle. Duke is a -4 this year with eight giveaways, and that’ll be the difference.
It’s Northwestern, so it’s going to come down to the final seconds. This time, though, the Wildcats pull it off – as ugly as it might be.
