Conference USA Week 8 Roundup

In lousy conditions, North Texas pulled off its fourth win of the season with a stunning victory over Army. Jeffrey Wilson ran for 160 yards and three scores, while the run defense held up despite getting hit by 302 Knight rushing yards and two scores. And why? Seven takeaways – the Mean Green picked off four passes and pounced on three fumbles. … Rice is no longer winless. Tyler Stehling threw for 407 yards and five scores in the 65-44 blowout win over Prairie View. … Middle Tennessee pulled off the 51-45 shocker against Missouri, getting four touchdown passes from Brent Stockstill to overcome a horrible day from the run defense. The D gave up 629 yards overall, but the offense kept up the pace throughout. … Charlotte ran all over Marshall, with Kalif Phillips running for 123 yards and two scores in the 27-24 win. The Herd got 262 passing yards and two scores from Chase Litton, but 12 penalties and a scoreless second half were a killer. … It wasn’t always smooth, but Louisiana Tech got two touchdown passes from Ryan Higgins to overcome a big day from FIU QB Alex McGough on the way to a 44-24 win. The Bulldogs got their normal performance from Trent Taylor, who caught 11 passes for 156 yards and a score in the key conference win. … In an under-the-radar wild showdown, UTEP got its second win of the season as Ryan Metz came up with a touchdown pass in the fifth overtime to overcome a three-touchdown day from UTSA’s Dalton Sturm to win 52-49. The Miners committed 13 penalties and got hit by 525 Roadrunner yards, but the desperate team might have saved its season.
