Colorado State (3-4) vs. UNLV (3-4) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 22
Game Time: 5:30 pm
Venue: Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV
It’s okay to call this a bowl elimination game for the loser, because it is.
UNLV has fought back from a rough start by winning two of the last three games, going on a business trip to Hawaii and getting the ground attack going with a 41-38 win.
With starting QB Johnny Stanton out, Dalton Sneed stepped it up after a 2-of-12 day against San Diego State and hit 19-of-27 passes for 279 yards and two scores, while the 102 rushing yards from Lexington Thomas helped grind out the win over the Rainbow Warriors.
But with Wyoming and Boise State still to deal with, and winnable games against San Jose State and Nevada to play, a win is a must to get into bowl range.
Colorado State did what it could to scratch and claw its way back into the game against Boise State, but it still lost in a 28-23 fight. Now it’s going to have to scratch and claw a bit with the loss of QB Collin Hill for the year with a knee injury.
Nick Stevens stepped up against the Broncos and threw two touchdown passes, and now he’s going to have to rock to make up for a struggling defense that’s not doing enough against the run.
It’s up to the Rebels to keep the chains moving and control the game on the ground again, but can they win a game they’re supposed to at home? Yup.
UNLV will pull off its third win in four games and be the hot team in the Mountain West at just the right time.
