BYU (8-3) vs. Utah State (3-8) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 26
Game Time: 10:15 pm
Venue: LaVell Edwards Stadium, Provo, UT
Bowl and Conference Implications
None. Utah State’s season is over, BYU is going to the Poinsettia Bowl.
What’s Going To Happen?
In a strange sort of way, this game is both team’s real bowl game.
It’s Utah State’s last game of the year – desperately needing something positive after a four-game losing streak – while BYU would love to beat an in-state team probably more than anyone it faces in the Poinsettia Bowl.
The Aggies haven’t been able to catch a break, losing by a grand total of four points over the last two weeks and with four losses by a touchdown or less.
And they’re not getting anything positive happening this week, with BYU RB Jamaal Williams ready to roll with a foot injury against a depleted Utah State linebacking corps.
BYU is on a three-game losing streak against the light and breezy part of the schedule – sort of a fail-safe after a brutal first two months of the season – with the offense rolling without a problem and the defense stopping woeful Cincinnati, Southern Utah and UMass offenses allowing a combined 19 points in the three wins.
The Cougar run defense has been sensational, and Utah State can’t throw a lick. The woes will continue for the Aggies as they close out the dreadful season by getting rolled on the road.
BYU will own the field position, tilting it the other way the whole game. Utah State won’t be able to go on any long, sustained drives.
