And now the nightmare is over for BYU – at least it’s supposed to be.
No one had a more brutal eight-game schedule to get through – maybe ever. Even though Michigan State isn’t as good as it was supposed to be, and Arizona might be struggling now, and Mississippi State is the worst team in the SEC, come on. This was a horrible slate to deal with, and now comes an exhale month for the Cougars.
But they still need to win two games to become bowl eligible.
With two weeks off after the rough, late loss to Boise State, this is the last road game of the season needing to get by a Cincinnati team that’s just looking to pull up out of the nosedive.
The Bearcats can’t seem to get this thing going again after winning three of their first four games.
Losers of three of their last four games, and getting blown out in all of them, the offense doesn’t have any positive consistency, struggling to find something positive with QB Gunner Kiel taking over a few games ago and trying to gear up the passing attack.
The UC defense has been good enough, but the offense has to get going against one of the nation’s worst pass defenses.
On the other side, BYU RB Jamaal Williams is coming off an ankle problem – the two weeks off should help in a big way – to help a Cougar team that’s used to playing in tough game after tough game. Seven of the eight games have been decided by seven points or fewer, and six of the eight by three points or fewer.
BYU knows how to handle itself, Cincinnati doesn’t. The rest will do wonders for the Cougars as they look sharp from the start with the running game rolling.
