Buffalo (2-6) at Ohio (6-3) Game Preview

Venue: Peden Stadium, Athens, OH

Ohio has been seen as the best team in the mediocre MAC East all season, but it hardly looked like a possible conference champion. And then came last week and a brilliant 31-26 win over Toledo, with the running game rolling and the team looking like it’s poised and ready to make a real run for the MAC.
But first, the Bobcats have to get past a Buffalo team that came up with one of the shockers of the conference season, blowing out Akron thanks to a massive day from RB Jordan Johnson, who ripped off 282 yards and two scores in the 41-20 win.
Can the Ohio run defense continue to hold up and turn UB into a passing team? The Bobcats only allowed more than 200 yards on the ground once – Tennessee – and have been a brick wall at times over the last five games in MAC play. Toledo had a little success last week, but not enough to get the win.
Ohio’s problem is in the secondary, not with the ground game, and it should be able to keep Johnson from going off. Meanwhile, at home, it should be able to grind things out a bit to take advantage of a miserable Bull front seven that’s getting steamrolled by just about everyone.
Even with some key injuries to deal with, this is where Ohio takes that next step to get closer to the MAC East title. However, Buffalo will keep it close thanks to Bobcat QB Greg Windham’s leg injury that should keep him out and force freshman Quinton Maxwell to give it a go.
