Bowl and Conference Implications
Wake Forest is already bowl eligible and locked into fourth place in the Atlantic. Boston College can become bowl eligible with a win, and it might be in a bowl at 5-7 based on its Academic Progress Report.
What’s Going To Happen?
Finally, Boston College looked like it was supposed to, rocking UConn with a terrific defensive effort to make up for yet another rough day from the offense.
The Eagles were able to manufacture points off the big day from the D, but they’re not getting enough from an offensive front that’s going to have a rough time against a Wake Forest defensive line that’s slipping a wee bit – getting roasted by Louisville and Clemson – but is still dangerous against mediocre attacks.
BC is averaging under three yards per pop over the last three games, and it’s not going to get going against a Demon Deacon defense that’ll catch a decent break.
Wake Forest doesn’t have an offense – scoring 13 points or fewer in four of the last five games – with a running game that gets stuffed too early on first downs and with no downfield passing game.
But the defense gives the offense plenty of chances, and the offense doesn’t make a slew of big mistakes – Wake Forest is eighth in the nation in turnover margin.
With QB John Wolford back from an ankle injury, Wake Forest will have just enough of a passing game to offset a ground game that’ll get stopped by a BC front seven that held UConn to -6 rushing yards.
Look elsewhere for offense.
