Will the real NC State please stand up?
Just when it seemed like it was time to get excited about the Wolfpack with a win over Notre Dame and a terrific performance in a loss at Clemson, the air came flying out of the balloon in a 54-13 loss to Louisville that wasn’t even that close.
This is a good, sound team with a fantastic run defense and an efficient and effective offense – this is a much, much better team than the one that got pantsed in Papa John’s.
Boston College is still searching for its first ACC win since 2014, blowing a great opportunity against Syracuse last week. The defense continues to be okay, but the offense is still rough, the D isn’t doing enough to pick up the slack, and the team can’t seem to come up with the one big break at the right time.
Making matters worse for the Eagles, leading rusher Jon Hilliman has an ankle injury, and QB Patrick Towles has a hamstring problem after completing 4-of-14 passes with a pick – but with 104 yards – against Syracuse.
The NC State run defense and line are way too good to let BC get moving on the ground, while there’s no threat of getting hit by any sort of a passing game.
As long as Wolfpack QB Ryan Finley goes back to the guy who doesn’t throw picks, and if the offense can come up with a few early scores, this should be easy.
With three home games in the next four, State has plenty of chances to make a big push over the final half of the season. It’ll start this week in a bounceback win that won’t be a problem after a close first 30 minutes.
