Auburn (7-2) vs. Georgia (5-4) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 12
Game Time: 3:30 pm
Venue: Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA
Auburn just keeps on rolling, and now the road is there to get to the SEC championship, and even the College Football Playoff with four more victories.
The Tigers might be banged up, but QB Sean White is ready to go, while new star RB Kamryn Pettway is still fighting through a leg injury. The offense has made the big splash after a rough September – don’t read anything into the 23-16 tight game against a grind-it-out Vanderbilt team – but the defense has flown under the radar.
And at times, the Tiger D has been even better than the O.
Georgia is still sputtering and coughing through the first year of the Kirby Smart era, but it’s been competitive with just about everyone. The Dawgs got blown away by Ole Miss, but they’ve been close – for good and bad – against everyone else.
The Georgia offense doesn’t have enough of a passing attack – even though Jacob Eason is an obvious star-in-the-making – to overcome a running game that’s been hit-or-miss, like the rest of the team.
The Dawgs might be 3-1 when running for over 200 yards, but it’s going to have a hard time cranking it up against an Auburn defense that hasn’t allowed more than 120 rushing yards in the last five games.
Can Georgia rise up and come up with something special at home? The defense overcame a rocky two-game stretch against Ole Miss and Tennessee to do a terrific job over the last four games – but it helped that none of the four teams it faced had an explosive offense.
Auburn won’t rip through the Dawgs, but it’ll be balanced enough offensively when it gets its chance, and the defense will make Eason try to win the game. He won’t be able to do it.
