Bowl and Conference Implications

Missouri will finish, at best, tied for last in the East and is well out of bowl contention, while Arkansas has a shot at finishing fourth in the West.

What’s Going To Happen?

Do you want to figure out this weird Arkansas team?

One week it’s pitching a defensive gem against eventual SEC East champion Florida in a blowout, and the next it’s getting blown away by LSU. It was good enough to get by Ole Miss – back when that meant something – and flaky enough to get destroyed by Auburn.

The Hogs have alternated win-loss-win-loss for the last nine games, and it’s coming off a win over Mississippi State with the points flying on the board in a 58-42 shootout.

So does that mean Missouri is going to come up with something special in its season finale?

It’s been a disastrous year in several ways as the Tigers try to rebuild back to the glory days. While a win wouldn’t necessarily be a stepping-stone, it would mean a decent finish with two wins in the last three games, beating Vanderbilt before getting lit up by Josh Dobbs and Tennessee.

This week, it’ll be about trying to stop Rawleigh Williams.

Mizzou’s defensive front hasn’t slowed anyone down, giving up 240 yards per game on the year, and now it has to face Williams coming off a 205-yard, four score day against the Bulldogs.

If the Hog offensive line gets into a groove and starts hammering away, this will be a hammering that the Tigers will be powerless to deal with.

But in the finale, Drew Lock and the Mizzou passing game will air it out from the start, coming off a 320-yard day against the Vols. The defense might not be slowing anyone down, but offense can put up points and yards in a hurry.

How did the Tigers beat Vanderbilt? The Commodores tried to slow it down, and that gave the MU defense a break. Arkansas will try to stick with the ball-control attack that keeps it third in the country in time of possession, while Missouri is second-to-last.

Arkansas should win this. It’s better, more talented, and far stronger on both sides of the ball, but the secondary hasn’t been close away from home this year, and it’s about to get lit up.

Never screw with a streak – if the pattern says Arkansas is going to lose coming off a win, and Missouri needs to do something special in its last game, steer into the skid.

Get ready for lots and lots of points.
