Akron (5-3) vs. Buffalo (1-6) Game Preview
Date: Thursday, Oct. 27
Game Time: 7:30 pm
Venue: UB Stadium, Buffalo, NY
This could’ve and should’ve been a major battle in the MAC East title chase, but instead, Buffalo is a wildly disappointing 0-3 in conference play while Akron is holding up its end of the bargain.
So the Zips got blown out by Western Michigan a few weeks ago – it doesn’t matter.
They still have to deal with Toledo from the West next week, but if they can beat Bowling Green and fellow East leader Ohio, they’re almost certain to go to the MAC title game.
As long as they don’t blow it this week.
Buffalo keeps getting worse and worse, losing the last four games by double-digits and getting annihilated by Northern Illinois 44-7 last week – the offense just can’t score.
The O is throwing okay, but it’s not enough. Tyree Jackson is a good-looking freshman with nice upside, but he threw four picks last week in the loss to NIU to go along with plenty of yards. The UB offense is moving okay at times, but it doesn’t mean much.
The Bull run defense is the biggest culprit, allowing more than 300 yards in the last three games and five times in the last six.
Akron doesn’t have a high-end running game, but the offense has the explosion to keep throwing its way out of any sort of trouble.
Neither defense will do much of anything in what should be an entertaining game – really, it will be – with Buffalo playing just well enough at home to give the Zips too much of a fight.
