Air Force (4-1) vs. New Mexico (2-3) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Oct. 15
Game Time: 3:30 pm
Venue: Cotton Bowl, Dallas, TX
All of a sudden, Air Force is in trouble.
There’s still plenty of time to rise back up and win the Mountain division, but a stunning home loss to Wyoming shook up the season and the division. Meanwhile, New Mexico is all but done with a loss in the Cotton Bowl.
The Lobos got past their Boise State game with a 49-21 home loss, and now they need to get the nation’s No. 1 rushing attack going just to keep bowl hopes alive.
Even with the ground game, there’s no efficiency to the passing attack, while the defense can’t seem to do enough against anyone’s passing game.
And that’s where Air Force has to win.
The running game has done its part all year, but it was stunned by Wyoming last week when the run defense couldn’t hold up in key moments, allowing 189 yards and a score to the Cowboys.
But that was the only blip so far for the Falcon defensive front seven that hadn’t allowed more than 100 rushing yards all year to anyone, and that includes Navy and Utah State.
Air Force will get the defense back to form and won’t allow the Lobo ground game to ever take control – the linebackers are too sure and too good. New Mexico star RB Teriyon Gipson will play through a hamstring injury, but he’ll be bottled up.
