Wyoming (7-2) vs. UNLV (3-6) Game Preview
Date: Saturday, Nov. 12
Game Time: 3:00 pm
Venue: Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV
It’s Wyoming’s Mountain Division, if it wants to take it.
The Cowboys kept on rolling after the big win over Boise State, beating Utah State with an impressive 52-28 effort as the running game and Brian Hill rolled at will for the team’s fifth-straight win.
Beat UNLV, and win one of the last two games against San Diego State – a possible Mountain West title game preview – and New Mexico, and it’s off to the title game in one of the season’s most improbable turnarounds.
So how is this happening? What’s going right for the Cowboys this year?
Last year the defense couldn’t stop anyone or anything, and the offense couldn’t pick up the slack. This year, the defense is just okay – it still can’t stop anyone’s passing game – but the front seven is starting to make more plays.
And the offense is more than holding its own.
Can UNLV get its own offense going?
QB Johnny Stanton is back and ready from a knee injury, but it’ll be Kurt Palandech starting again after a rough outing against San Jose State. He only hit 48% of his passes in the loss, but he’s mobile, and he’s got the experience. But can he provide a spark?
UNLV just can’t seem to create a break. There’s no pass rush, but the defense hasn’t been awful. There’s no downfield passing game, but the ground game is terrific.
Wyoming will be too effective on the lines throughout. UNLV will hang around, but it won’t be able to control the game in the second half.
