Others are lurking for the Group of Five’s New Year’s Six slot, but Western Michigan is just three wins away from a historic moment and one of the biggest games in school history.
The machine just keeps on rolling, getting by Kent State last week for yet another double-digit win that turned out to be with relative ease, but was a problem for a little while before getting comfy.
The defense might be a wee bit soft at times against the run, and there are a few too many third downs being converted, but that’s nitpicking. There’s no real problem at the moment with a team that’s been so consistent, so balance, and so strong.
Win or lose, the MAC title will all but be decided against Toledo next week, but if the Broncos want the big prize – the Cotton Bowl – it’s there. They just have to win out.
Buffalo has been interesting at times with the offense hit-or-miss, but it’s not able to get the job done defensively in key spots.
The field position battle is almost always an issue for a team as challenge as the Bulls are at putting together sustained drives, and there are far too many errors to expect a consistent effort on either side.
WMU will be just focused enough at home for the regular-season finale to get up fast, and then hand the ball off over and over and over again, grinding out 300 yards on the ground in an easy win to make the margin of victory part of the resume look that much stronger.
