Washington (8-0) vs. California (4-4) Game Preview

Date: Saturday, Nov. 5
Game Time: 10:30 pm
Venue: Memorial Stadium, Berkeley, CA
Network: ESPN

It’s okay, Washington. Don’t worry about it.

Yeah, you’re No. 5 in the first College Football Playoff rankings, and yeah, no one’s really respecting a mediocre schedule with a good win over Utah, and … and … a good win over Utah. It doesn’t matter. Win out, and you’re in the CFP. Go 12-1 and win the Pac-12 championship, and you’re in the CFP.

But it wouldn’t be a bad thing to come out and hammer Cal on the road.

This is the first real curveball passing team the Huskies have had to face. They’ve dealt with dangerous running games, but the nation’s tenth-best pass defense not begins a November full of dangerous quarterbacks, finishing up with Washington State’s Luke Falk, dealing with USC’s Sam Darnold next week, and this week, going against Davis Webb and a Cal team that desperately needs a win.

The Bears have had a good 4-4 season with lots of fun and lots of big moments from the passing game, but with a dangerous road game at Washington State up next, and tough dates against Stanford and UCLA to finish, they have to win two of their last four to get bowling. And if they lose the fifth-ranked team in the country, they’re going to have to win two of their last three.

Get ready for the Washington running game to get rocking. The Cal run defense has been miserable all year, ranking last in the nation allowing 287 yards per game.

The Huskies have come up with 200 yards or more in two of the last three games – and they’re averaging over five yards per pop for the last three games – with Myles Gaskin going off. He’s rushed for 100 yards or more in each of his last four games with 151 last week against Utah, and he’ll go off again.

Webb will dink and dunk his way to yet another 300-yard day, but they’ll never get control of the game with the Huskies dominating third downs and the time of possession battle.
