Who saw Temple coming?
This was Houston’s year, and then Navy looked the part, and then South Florida was supposed to be amazing, but even with a loss to Memphis, all of a sudden it’s Temple who’s looking the part of a possible AAC East champ.
The Owls have won three straight, rolling through UCF, South Florida and Cincinnati thanks to a defense that’s found its mojo against the pass, and with a ground game that’s been fantastic.
With a relatively easy final three games, they have the division there for the taking. But first, they have to deal with a desperate UConn team.
The Huskies shook up the coaching staff a bit after a three-game losing streak and losers of five of the last six games. The offense has been a nightmare and the defense isn’t picking up the slack, getting rolled by East Carolina 41-3 and giving up 41 points or more in three of the last five games.
But the Huskies are overdue.
Can a new offensive coordinator make any sort of a difference?
RB coach David Corley is the new main man, while Frank Verducci will handle the tight ends, but the same players are still in place.
Temple is running too well, coming up with 210 yards or more in four of the last six games, but the Huskies will get the job done on the defensive front to keep this interesting.
UConn won’t have enough offensive punch to pull off the upset, but it’ll find a little more pop to the passing game. Unfortunately for the Huskies, they’ll be -2 in turnover margin, and the Owls will capitalize on the mistakes to keep the momentum going.
