It’s been a fun year for Cal, even if the final results aren’t going to be all that great, and it’s been a rough year for Stanford, even though the team will be off to a bowl game and pulled up out of the doldrums.

The Bears put up a ton of points, plenty of yards, and played in wild game after wild game – with wins over Texas and Utah making a big difference on a national scale – but there’s absolutely no defense whatsoever.

It was supposed to be a problem from the start, and it’s turning out to be even worse than expected allowing 43 points or more in eight of the last nine games while giving up close to 50 points per game over the last four. There’s little pass defense, and absolutely no run D whatsoever.

And that’s where Mr. McCaffrey comes in.

Christian McCaffrey hasn’t been on the radar after a rough midseason stretch, but he’s been on fire over the last three games including a 199-yard day against Oregon State and 135 yards and three scores last week against Oregon.

He rumbled for 192 yards last year against Cal, and this week he’ll be fed the ball over and over and over again on the way to a massive day.

Can the Bears get up fast and make the mediocre Stanford offense keep up? The Cardinal did it last week against Oregon, and in The Big Game, it’s about to do that again with three picks of Davis Webb to make things even easier for McCaffrey and the Stanford O.
