Bowl and Conference Implications
Idaho has already locked up bowl eligibility, but there’s a chance it can finish in the Sun Belt’s top three with two more wins. South Alabama is trickier. It can become bowl eligible with a win this week and a win next week against New Mexico State, or it can get it done with one win, and a special break from the NCAA for playing two FCS teams –
What’s Going To Happen?
Idaho only has three games left in its current FBS life, and it can close out with a bang thanks to a strong passing attack and – for Idaho’s world – a good-enough defense that’s been able to stop bad Sun Belt offenses over the last few weeks.
South Alabama has been a bit flaky, but it’s shown just enough of its own passing game at times, and its secondary has been rocking well enough to get into bowl contention.
Can the Jaguars handle being on the road? They beat Mississippi State in Starkville, but they’re 0-3 in away games since then – and it doesn’t get much more away than Moscow.
USA has only allowed ten passing scores on the year – with six of them coming against ULM and Louisiana-Lafayette – but the secondary isn’t making big plays or generating enough picks.
What the Jaguars can do is run, cranking it up over the last few weeks and starting to churn out bigger and bigger dashes against ULM and Presbyterian.
But Idaho will enjoy being at home again in just the fourth Kibbie Dome date of the season.
It’ll be a close, tight battle, but with the Vandal special teams making a difference in the fourth quarter.
