One loss, one misfire, one bad day, and it all might be over.
Boise State is good enough to be undefeated and in the New Year’s Six bowl hunt, and it’s good enough to be ranked 24th in the first College Football Playoff rankings, only one big thing went wrong along the way.
It’s not undefeated anymore.
The Broncos lost to Wyoming last week, and now it’ll take a ton of work just to win the Mountain Division, much less the Mountain West, much less get into one of the big, fancy bowls.
Turnovers have been a major problem – a safety, though, was the issue late against the Cowboys – as has an offense that puts up a ton of yards, but not a lot of points for a team this good, scoring just 28 in each of the last three weeks.
San Jose State should be the cure for that, with a defense that can’t stop the run and is about to be streamrolled over for a full 60 minutes.
The Spartans don’t screw themselves up with silly penalties, and the defense does a shockingly great job of getting off the field, but the punch isn’t there to keep up with a suddenly motivated Bronco team in need of a rebound win.
