The American Athletic Conference West division was supposed to be the Houston Invitational, but instead, Navy vs. Tulsa could be for the division title. Or at the very least, the loser should be out of it.
Tulsa overcame the heartbreaking loss to Houston to win three straight with the offense taking the production to a whole other level. A scoring machine, the Golden Hurricane have scored 154 points over the last three games, and hit the 43-point mark in six of the last seven games and seven times on the year.
The offense is almost perfectly balanced, versatile, and explosive. RB James Flanders has is a 100-yard machine – scoring nine rushing touchdowns over the last three games – while Dane Evans continues to be one of the nation’s most consistent and efficient passers, throwing for eight scores and no picks over the last three games.
Yeah, yeah, yeah … but can the run defense hold up?
Short answer, probably not.
Tulane’s option attack might have been a glimpse of what’s coming, running for 355 yards and four scores a few weeks ago, and while Tulsa won, it was a fight.
Navy continues to be Navy, hitting the 300-yard mark over the last four games with the attack humming at the right time.
Totally and completely dominant against Notre Dame, the Midshipmen never let the Irish offense have the ball with long march after long march – and that has to be the formula.
Time of possession doesn’t mean the world to Tulsa, but it’ll have to press a bit with the Navy doing what it does. The Golden Hurricane will come up with too many plays down the field – the Midshipmen O will work.
